What is Maa Shailaputri Pooja?

As per Hindu customs and religious beliefs, the pious and divine Goddess Durga is worshipped for nine days during Navratri, to celebrate the strength of good over evil. Each day is dedicated to a particular form of Durga, which symbolizes her various avatars and specific reason to be worshipped.

The very first day of Navratri is dedicated to goddess Shailputri, daughter of Parvatraj Himalaya (King of Mountains). She is beautifully adorned with half-moon on her head, holding trident and lotus in her hands and riding over her bull (nandi). Goddess Shailputri Pooja is a divine way to worship Goddess Parvati, who is an epitome of love and state of awareness (from Sati to Parvati). Worshipping her on the first day signifies the beginning state of spirituality, keeping the mooladhar, the first basic chakra of body, in mind as Shailputri is the mooladahar Shakti for discovering oneself.

Significance of the Pooja:

As per Hindu puranas, the journey of Shailputri from searching Lord Shiva as Sati to finally being her better half as Parvati, shows her faith and love for Lord Shiva. Worshipping her in this form satisfies the materialistic and spiritual goals of life. It fills the native with strength to deal with day to day problems as well as one can attain salvation. This pooja also relieves you from the malefic effects of Venus and Mercury.
