When should this Pooja be performed?

As per Hindu customs, Nag Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day (Panchami) of Shukla Paksh of waxing moon in Sharavan month during the monsoon season. It is generally observed in July or August, according to the English calendar. Devotee’s perform fast on this day and conduct Naag Panchami Pooja with faith and devotion.

What is Naag Panchami Pooja?

Naag Panchami is an auspicious day for snakes, when Ma Mansa Devi saved the entire clan of snakes from becoming extinct due to the Sarpa Satra Yagna, performed by rishi munis as per the order of King Janamejaya; whose father, Prikshit, grandson of Arjuna died due to snake bite by Snake Takshak. Naag Panchami Pooja is a way to please Naag Devta and seeking his blessings for protection against any probable harm from snakes. Digging of field and ploughing is avoided on this day, as earth is the habitat of the snakes.

Even for eliminating the ill effects of Kaal Sarpa Dosh in the Kundli, this Pooja is also performed.
