About this Pooja

People celebrate Raksha Bandhan on Full moon day of Shravan month. As per Hindu mythology, once Lord Vishnu became the gate keeper of Bali, the grandson of Bhakt Prahlad, to protect him in Pataal Lok. Goddess Lakshmi went to Bali and made him her brother by tying Rakhi, a raksha sootra. In return as a gift, she took back Lord Vishnu from Bali on this day. In addition, when Lord Krishna had his hand hurt, Draupadi, the wife of Pandvas, tore a piece of her saree and tied it on the wrist of Krishna. Krishna said that he will always protect her.

Since that time, on the day of Raksha Bandhan, brothers take a vow to protect their sisters. To mark the ceremony, sisters tie Rakhis on the brothers’ wrists.

For the long life and prosperity of the brother, a Pooja can be organized, in which Lord Ganesh, Shiva, Vishnu and Goddess Lakshami are worshipped.
