As per Hindu ceremonial customs, everyday Shanti Path is undertaken for peace of departed soul during the period of mourning. Main Shanti Path is undertaken on Tehravi day as the final prayer of departed soul.

During Shanti Path, the prayers are very solemn and point out towards the futility of material possessions as the ultimate destination of any creature is in the realm of God. It extols the living to do good deeds since only good deeds are means of salvation of soul.
